WAWA

TRANSLATING PHILOSOPHY INTO SPATIAL EXPERIENCE

Context

Wawa is a swimming school for babies and toddlers founded by a mother of three seeking an alternative to traditional swim programs. The goal was to create a safe, welcoming environment that supported children as they developed independence and confidence in and out of the water.

The school’s methodology focuses on early survival skills, shaping a philosophy centered on trust, care, and autonomy — values that needed to be reflected clearly throughout the physical space.

Role and responsibility

I led the creative direction for the new facility, expanding an existing brand identity into a cohesive environmental and signage system. My role included defining the visual language, collaborating with interior designers, coordinating mural execution, and supervising on-site implementation to ensure consistency and quality.

Creative Direction

The creative direction translated Wawa’s philosophy into a visual language that felt playful yet intentional. Kites became a central motif, symbolizing progression and independence, and were integrated as part of a broader narrative rather than used decoratively.

Working closely with the interior design and hardscaping team, the graphic system was designed to complement the architecture and materials of the space. The existing logo acted as a visual anchor, while the new elements extended the brand across walls, signage, and ambient graphics.

Process & Execution

The work required close coordination between creative development and physical execution. I aligned graphic interventions with the spatial layout and managed the mural production process — sourcing tools and materials, coordinating painters, and supervising installation.

By defining creative decisions early and structuring the execution clearly, the project maintained momentum on site while ensuring fidelity to the original vision.

Outcome

The facility opened successfully and on schedule. The visual system was later extended to a second mural for another pool within the complex, reinforcing its adaptability.

More than eight years later, the murals remain in place and continue to support Wawa’s identity, reflecting the durability and clarity of the original creative direction.
